The Council of the European Union has decided to extend until October 10, 2025, the sanctions in place against those undermining the stability and political transition in Sudan. These restrictive measures apply to six individuals and six entities involved in the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as their affiliated militias. The sanctions include travel restrictions, asset freezes, and a prohibition on providing funds or economic resources to these individuals or entities.
These measures were first introduced in January 2024, targeting entities linked to the SAF and RSF, and were later extended in June 2024 to individuals from both sides. In September 2024, following an escalation of fighting in El Fasher, the EU called on the warring parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian access.
