On Monday, 19 October 2026, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr Barry Faure, officially opened the Biennial Ambassadors’ Retreat 2026 at the Seychelles Allamanda Resort and Spa. In his opening remarks, Minister Faure called on Ambassadors to reflect on the Ministry’s mandate, key strategic priorities, and how best to advance and safeguard Seychelles’ national interests in an increasingly complex international environment.
“Our approach must balance continuity with the need to adapt. We have valuable experience, established relationships and institutional knowledge on which to build. At the same time, our responsibilities are evolving” the Minister stated. Seychelles is expanding its diplomatic engagement through development cooperation, stronger diaspora relations, and new diplomatic representation in Mauritius, Moscow and Cairo.
Minister Faure further highlighted the growing impact of geopolitical developments on the global economy and their implications for Seychelles. The Minister emphasised that these challenges reinforce the importance of informed, forward-looking diplomacy that takes account of international developments and their potential impact on Seychelles’ economic resilience and national interests.
In this regard, Minister Faure announced the introduction of strategic guidance for Ambassadors and Heads of Mission to enhance coordination, ensure alignment with Seychelles’ national priorities, and maintain the professional judgement and flexibility necessary to respond effectively to evolving developments.
The Biennial Ambassadors’ Retreat 2026, which brings together Seychelles Ambassadors, the Ministry’s staff and key partners, provides an important opportunity to review Seychelles’ foreign policy priorities, strengthen institutional coordination, and foster a shared understanding of the country’s diplomatic objectives and evolving international responsibilities.
