Seychelles and the Federated States of Micronesia Establish Diplomatic Relations

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Republic of Seychelles

On the 19th of August 2026, the Republic of Seychelles and the Federated States of Micronesia established diplomatic relations in the spirit of promoting bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of friendship.

The establishment of diplomatic relations is founded on the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and respect for fundamental norms of international law. Like Seychelles, the Federated States of Micronesia is a fellow member of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). As Small Island Developing States, the two countries share many commonalities, as well as face similar challenges due to their economic vulnerabilities and climate change.

The signing of the Joint Communiqué took place in New York between the Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the United Nations, Ambassador Vivianne FOCK TAVE, and the Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations, Ambassador Jeem Lippwe.
