Exposure to the diverse capabilities, operational roles and traditions of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is fundamental to developing well-rounded military leaders. In this regard, cadets from the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) recently undertook a familiarisation tour of selected KDF installations to enhance their understanding of the three Services and their respective contributions to the defence of the nation.

At the Air Base, the cadets were familiarised with Kenya Air Force capabilities, air operations and the critical role of aviation in supporting military operations. The visits also included visit to Embakasi Garrison and Combat Engineers Brigade, where they gained insights into the organisation, responsibilities and operational capabilities of the respective formations.

The engagements provided an opportunity to appreciate the specialised roles played by different military units in supporting the overall KDF mission.

At Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, they gained practical exposure to maritime operations, enhancing their appreciation of the Navy’s role in protecting Kenya’s maritime interests.

The familiarisation tour offered valuable exposure to the distinct but complementary capabilities of the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy broadening their understanding of the military profession and appreciation of joint service operations.

By exposing cadets to the operational environments, traditions and capabilities of the three Services, KMA continues to nurture a generation of officers with a broader professional outlook and leadership perspective required to effectively discharge their future responsibilities in service to the nation.
